Workshops are designed for Anika to share and teach her ceramics skills to ceramic makers of all levels and backgrounds.

Duration

Workshops can last anywhere from one to three days. They can be demonstration only, or hands-on.

Common Workshop topics

• Wheel Thrown and Altered Vessels: How to throw cylinders and multiple small parts, measuring forms with calipers, altering at soft leather hard, combining and smoothing parts. Variations of this include cups, bottles, pitchers, oil cruets, and decanters.

• Underglaze Transfers: Designing and burning custom underglaze transfer designs, screen printing underglaze designs onto rice paper, using mixing medium to make underglaze ink, drying and rehydrating underglaze transfers.

• Underglaze and Surface Design: Underglaze basics and application on bone-dry clay, custom mixing colors, creating a test palette, sgrafitto, underglaze inlay using wax, and painterly application with underglaze.

• Hand-built and Slab Built Vessels: Slab building methods and using slump and hump molds, combining multiples forms to create more complex shapes, adding slabs to expand forms,

• Brent Wheel Maintenance: basic wheel maintenance, diagnosis, replacement of mechanical parts like the belt, motor, pulley, and pedal adjustment.

• Kiln Maintenance: How to upkeep and maintenance Skutt Kilns. Replacement of elements, soft brick, relays, thermocouple,

• Kiln Loading and Firing: Best practices for loading bisque and glaze kilns. How to stack work safely and effi

Rate

Rates vary based on type, duration, and location of workshops. Workshop price to be agreed upon during the confirmation of the workshop, and workshop cost includes Anika’s day rate, plus travel accommodations.
